1.Ayurveda and yoga
India is also known as birthplace of ayurveda and yoga. holiest city Varanasi is the origin of ayurveda and yoga. Now the whole world is following ayurveda for its natural healing ways and yoga for purification of mind.
2.Tree marriage
If bride is born Manglik or Mars-bearing, she is considered to be cursed and cause an early death to her husband. According to old Hindu tradition it is believed that to overcome this curse for a bride only way is to marry a Peepal(Ficus) or banana tree. The tree is then destroyed and curse is broken. Speaking of marriage frogs are also married to each other in India specifically in the city called Varanasi. So when rain are delayed, the frogs there are caught and married to each other to please the rain gods.
3.Origin of multiple religions
The four religions born in India – Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, are followed by 25% of the world’s population. Among these hinduism is oldest religion. Buddhism and Jainism were founded in India in 500 B.C. and 600 B.C. respectively. Sikhism originated in the Holy city of Amritsar in Punjab.
4.Discovery of zero
The first time that zero was understood both as a symbol and value in its own right is found in India. Around 650 AD the mathematician Brahmagupta, among others, used small dots under numbers to represent a zero.
5.Name of the country
The name ‘India’ is inspired by the river indus. the valleys around this river were homes for early settlers, so that’s how the Indian Civilization started near the river indus.
6.Origin of popular board games
The popular board game chess is invented in India. There is another board game called ‘Snakes and ladders’ which was created in India by poet saint Gyandev in 13th century. ‘Ludo’ is another board game which was invented in India. Mughals used to play ludo game.
7.Contribution In mathematics
India is a important contributor in the field of mathematics. The different studies like Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus were introduced by India. Place value system and decimal system were developed in India in 100 B.C. The value of “pi” was first calculated by the Indian mathematician Budhayana, who explained the concept of the so-called Pythagorean Theorem. He discovered this in the 6th century, long before the European mathematicians
8.Nalanda University
It is one of the worlds most ancient universities situated in Bihar established in 5th century as a Learning Centre. It was then demolished by invader Bakhityar Khilji at the end of 12th century. He killed the monks and burned the books. Now It is being rebuilt.
9.Taj mahal
The worlds 7th wonder is situated in Agra. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Construction started in 1632 AD and completed in 1648 AD.
10.Animal wonders
Cows are considers sacred in India. killing cows is a crime in India. There is temple Karni Mata in state Rajasthan which is also called as ‘temple of rats’.
